NGCP energizes Calamba substation to meet growing demand in south Luzon
National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has energized its new Calamba 230-kiloVolt (kV) substation and transmission lines to address rising demand for power, particularly in South Luzon.
“With many industrial and residential developments south of Metro Manila, NGCP’s new Calamba 230-kV Substation is a critical facility for South Luzon. The substation and its associated transmission lines will also serve as another highway to prevent overloading and other reliability issues,” NGCP said.
NGCP said the substation project would benefit mostly industrial customers, mainly factories, manufacturing plants, and other big businesses in the eco-zones and industrial parks in Laguna, Batangas and nearby provinces.
According to the latest data from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), there are 10 manufacturing eco-zones in Batangas and 14 in Laguna.
NGCP is a Filipino-led, privately owned company in charge of operating and developing the country’s power grid, led by majority shareholders and vice chairman Henry “Big Boy” Sy Jr. and co-vice chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr.
It is the sole operating asset of Synergy Grid and Development Philippines Inc.
