Indulge In East Manila: Top 10 Things To Do In Mandaluyong - Updated 2021

    by Maria Lona

    Updated Jan 18, 2021

Nestled in the midst of the heart-shaped 11 square kilometers (4 square miles) land, Mandaluyong is a city located directly east of Manila. This side of the metro used to be a swampy area that had undergone stagnation. But with the belief and help from its local and foreign investors, Mandaluyong is now one of the leading industrial and commercial hubs in the National Capital Region.

The stagnant area is now home to the metro’s industrial giants and business conglomerates. It now brags of its high-class amenities, luxurious hotels, commercial centers, high-rise offices and condominiums. Hence, the metro’s heart of the golden triangle is now known as the “New Tiger” of Metro Manila which offers you hip activities that you would want to indulge in when visiting the place.

    1. Have some fun over a board game

It’s never too late to spend time with the children or even with your friends and participate in some “off the hours” fun with mind-boggling challenges on a board. Tobey’s Game Cafe allows you to play with your food for free. You just have to order some food from the menu and you get to choose from the 200 or more board games for both kiddies and adults.

Board games like Ticket to Ride, Stone Age and Puerto Rico are the most favored. These games are best played with a Belgian waffle, which would cost you PHP 100-200 (USD 2-4) depending on the filling. And you can have ice cream or milk tea with your meal as well. Since the place is a bit small and cozy, you come in on a first come, first serve basis. So pick the time and get a spot at Tobey’s.

    2. Get your body and mind into tip-top shape with dance sessions

The popular classic dance program brings you to the world of the stage and camera. Dancing is not just for expression but also a physical activity that keeps you fit. Lower body toning, core training and self-discipline have always been emphasized in the world of ballet.

With world-class training from the best, it is quite a bedazzle to see one on tip-toes. JNA Dance & Fitness Center’s ballet program with Effie Nana offers pre-ballet, children’s, elementary, adult, intermediate and advanced levels. If you want a touch of class and a good training for character and physique, enroll in one of their programs now.

    3. Alternative fitness program that are cool and unconventional

There is more to fitness than just running, aerobics or Zumba classes. Movement Dance Studio offers you more than you can ask for with this cool and wacky way of getting fit. While the usual Zumba, kickboxing sessions and other body building programs are offered, the world of hip-hop and pole dancing are equally challenging body training alternatives. So if you hate traditional gyms, tone your body in a different way today.

    4. Train and chill out on the rink

The cool feel of the air that brushes off your face is quite an interesting thing to think about while you sweat it out. One of the most famous and biggest commercial establishments in the metro is located right in Mandaluyong, SM Megamall. This shopping mall is second largest in the country and fourth in the world and is home to the rink where ice skater enthusiasts release their energy to take those graceful twists and turns that people have always wanted to try. That is now possible here in the tropical country of the Philippines. So glide through the solid waters on the rink at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong.

    5. Rolls and throws at the alley

Have some fun and get fit with a team. Mandaluyong proposes several bowling alleys that you can go to with your friends. Not quite far from the skating rink is the SM Megamall Bowling Center. So should you want to meet up and go out with a bigger group after the ice skating challenge, then you can just conveniently go to the center without having to go through the hassles of the congested roads on the highway. Nearby bowling alleys are also good options. Coronado Lanes at Starmall, E-lanes Bowling Club in Greenhills San Juan and the Marketplace Shopping Mall are other alleys you should also drop by.

    6. Destress, jump, fly and have some fun in Mandaluyong

What better way to work out and release your energy by going back to the times when you used to hop, jump off from stairs, throw a ball and laugh out loud with your friends or family? Experience this once again at the Trampoline Park Zero Gravity Zone. A time at the Trampoline will cost you about 320 PHP (6.42 USD). Everyone in the area is required to wear thick socks that have a rubberized sole.

But if you don’t have this, you can easily get one for 80 PHP (1.61 USD) at the counter. A briefing is normally given on how to jump. But since the heart rate goes up if you indulge in this kind of activity, it is advisable that you have yourself checked before you engage. Once it is all cleared up, you can just jump in and get loaded with energy at the park.

    7. Grab that first-hand experience by breaking out in the Philippines

Breakout is an online game that releases your detective side and helps you figure out how to make your first real escape from a room game. Get in with friends and make your first escape in 45 minutes. With the themed rooms, various storylines ask the team to plan out, find clues, solve the puzzles and escape before the time’s up. While books allow you to imagine, video games or movies entice you to delve deeper into your imagination. Breakout allows you to have the first-hand thrill of a mental and physical challenge.

    8. Highlight workouts on suspensions

The peak of any art is to be able to go beyond the simple things and explore your innate talent to the maximum. When in Manila, Mandaluyong will expose you to not only the conventional or the classics but also the in-betweens of modern dance, jazz and ballet. ACTS Dance and Arts Academy offers you the Navy Seal’s TRX workout, which keeps your body in top shape.

How else would you want to prepare a food but in the most enticing way? Take the opportunity to visit Gourdos Inc. and have creative concepts translated into that sumptuous maki sushi meal.

    10. Friday outdoor shopping at Greenfield Weekend Market

Fridays have always been special for a lot of people. Apart from the fact that it is the end of the week, it also enables people to take the time to bond and chat over food, over fun and in any place. That’s probably how your week should end with a touch of fulfillment which merits good food, great fun with good company. Greenfield Weekend Market is the way to go if you want all elements to be there. The market actually opens only on Fridays and closes the next day.

You can see food stalls with various foods that touch on different cuisines. There are drinks fit for a Friday outing as well as the usual favorites like ice-cream, sodas and the like. You can also visit non-food stalls with novelty items and souvenirs for your stay in Mandaluyong. It may not be as enticing if you compare it to the high-end stalls you’re expecting, but it really is best for just checking out after a busy week. Try it!
