DOLE’s livelihood program benefits Pangasinenses

DAGUPAN CITY, Aug. 5 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office 1 (DOLE RO1) has poured in livelihood assistance to marginalized and disadvantaged informal workers in Pangasinan, as various livelihood projects were awarded to beneficiaries recently.
 
DOLE Ilocos information officer Justin Paul Marbella said that through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), low-income workers are given livelihood support to boost their economic activities, thus empowering them as productive members of the society.
 
In Aguilar, Pangasinan, DOLE-RO1 awarded Curambing Pao Farmers Association with a farm mechanization project amounting to P1 million.
 
The group livelihood undertaking will benefit 91 members of the farmers’ group.
 
During the turnover of check on July 29, DOLE RO1 regional director Atty. Evelyn Ramos expressed hope that the farmers may now see greener pastures through the livelihood support.
 
“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma emphasize that government programs should strongly impact the farthest of the communities, and so we are happy that we are able to bring this government aid to you,” said Ramos.
 
In Dagupan City, DOLE-RO1 distributed FreeBis (free bicycles) to 30 low-income workers on August 1.
 
The beneficiaries are persons with disabilities, and those belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community.
 
A component of the DILP, the FreeBis project helps ease unemployment by providing livelihood opportunities to workers in the formal and informal sectors displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Meanwhile, the DOLE’s emergency employment program continues to foster labor among disadvantaged and displaced workers in Pangasinan.
 
Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program, 1,618 marginalized individuals from Lingayen will be tapped for community work, such as cleaning and disinfection, in all the barangays of the capital town on July 30 – August 8.
 
In exchange for their work, the TUPAD beneficiaries will get P370 daily wage.
 
Ramos handed over the check worth P5,986,600 to the local government unit of Lingayen on July 29.
