This export quality delicacy is not only marketed locally but also to other countries. It productively contributes in representing the agricultural commodities of the municipality of Balungao. It is one of the sources of livelihood in the town which benefits local communities and even those in the nearby towns by reselling the product.

Balungao tupig has a distinct taste because of the natural sweetener from buri palm tree. They extract the buri juice or sap and mix it with the refined glutinous rice and shredded young coconut. When cooked, it is caramelized brown in color with a flattened surface due to folding both ends of the banana leaf wrapper when grilled. The leaves are equally medium burnt. They have the classic and special tupig which are made for pre-order and can also be bought in boxes. There are other flavors available too!
