Transitioning Your Home For The Holidays
No one takes the holidays more seriously than Filipinos.
Everyone seems to be a pro when it comes to preparing for the holidays. It’s not just celebrities and influencers — it’s also your next-door neighbour who instagrams home decorating projects as soon as September steps in. With the holidays becoming more and more frantic and pressure-filled, it is almost impossible to keep up.
Check out this weekly checklist to help you sort out your home (and your life) in time for the holiday season.
SUNDAYS : Organize and Declutter
Before you fill your home with holiday ornaments, start with a clean slate. Sort and discard unnecessary clutter in your home every week. Rethink your storage system and allocate space for every necessity or items for storage. You can schedule a particular area a week so you will not feel overwhelmed.
MONDAYS : Shop for Holiday Essentials
Once you’re done decluttering, you will have a clear overview of what you actually have or lacking in your home. Dedicate Mondays for shopping so there are fewer people in the mall. Make sure to keep a priority list of holiday essentials you need to keep you from overspending.
TUESDAYS : All About Cooking
Every Tuesday of the week, dedicate your time organizing and setting up your kitchen and pantry. Since the kitchen is usually the busiest during the holiday season, keeping it at its most organized and efficient state will surely help keep you breeze through the holiday parties. Save your Tuesdays for clearing and stocking up your pantry, lining up your kitchen gadgets, or simply working on a piece of equipment that needs some fixing. Don’t forget to clean and descale your pots, pans, and ovens too.
WEDNESDAYS : Mid-week DIYs
Keep your creativity flowing throughout the week by spending your Wednesdays on DIYs. Instead of buying new Christmas decors, try to update your existing ones with a little bit of crafty work. It’s also the perfect time to add some personal touch to your home. From custom Christmas stockings or personalized throw pillow covers, you’ll surely find a spot in your home that needs some DIY love.
THURSDAY : Easy Entertaining
There are many ways to set up areas in your home for an easy and festive holiday entertaining. Reserve your Thursdays to do some rearranging to create that perfect spot. You can set aside time this day to set up that swoon-worthy bar cart or to spruce up your powder room with scented candles and towels. Your buffet table and cupboards should also be ready for some holiday action.
FRIDAY : Home Guests
If you’re expecting relatives or friends who will most probably stay overnight, it’s best to come up with a sleeping assignment planned ahead. If you have a guest room, then you’re all good. If not, set aside extra beddings, sheets and covers to come in handy when the need arises. You can also throw in some toiletry kits and towels for your guests’ use too.
SATURDAYS : Decorate and Set-Up
Now that you’re done with all your holiday home errands and prepping, you can already move on to the exciting part: decorating your home for Christmas. From trees, ornaments, and festive lights, you’ll definitely feel the holiday vibe once you’ve set them all up. Make sure to involve your family and kids in the process too so they can take pride and ownership of your cozy and festive holiday home.
