Villar inspects 3 infra projects in E. Visayas

ABREMATEATACLOBAN CITY, Leyte: Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar inspected three major infrastructure projects being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 8 based in Barangay Baras, Palo, Leyte, last Tuesday.
Villar first checked on the Tacloban City bypass road, then the Palo West bypass road and the Leyte tide embankment (Sections 4 and 5) projects.
As of June 15, 2021, the Tacloban City bypass road and the Palo West bypass road projects have already been reported as 100 percent completed.
Both of these projects are expected to improve traffic conditions in Leyte, benefiting more than a thousand motorists a day, according to DPWH 8 Regional Director Nerie Bueno.
She said the Tacloban City bypass road starts from Barangay Nula-Tula, Tacloban City, along Daang Maharlika road and ends at Barangay Caibaan, Tacloban City, along Daang Maharlika.
Bueno said the Palo West bypass road diverts the flow of traffic in Palo, particularly at the junction of Palo-Carigara-Ormoc road and the Daang Maharlika road, and at the junction of Daang Maharlika road-Tacloban-Baybay-south road-government center road network.
She added that the two bypass roads were built by private contractor EZones Construction Inc.
Villar said the Leyte tide embankment project, when completed, will protect residents of coastal areas of Tacloban City and the municipalities of Palo and Tanauan, Leyte.
"The Leyte tide embankment project has been designed to protect over 33,0000 houses and buildings in Leyte. Section 5 of this project will also be completed this year under President Rodrigo Duterte's administration," he added.
Villar said Section 4 of the embankment is 79.81 percent completed and Section 5, 76.16.
He was accompanied during the inspection of the major projects by Bueno, OIC-Assistant Regional Director Najib Dilangalen, district engineers and other key officials of DPWH Region 8.
Villar first inspected the projects before joining Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana during the inauguration of two buildings that were built under the Department of National Defense and the DPWH convergence project through the "Tatag ng Imprastraktura para sa Kapayapaan at Seguridad" program held in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City.
