VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK – THE WORLD WAR II MEMORABILIA GROUND SITE IN LINGAYEN PANGASINAN
Veterans Memorial Park is a park in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Located at the back of the Provincial Capitol of the province and adjacent to the Lingayen Gulf Beach.
The park serves as a tribute to the heroes of World War II and was built in memory of the Filipino freedom fighters during the historical Gulf Landing in Lingayen.
The place is now considered the most valued museum of Pangasinan as it tells the story of the province’s history.
Inside the Park
Established in 2008 under former President Fidel V. Ramos, who hails from this province, the park is a wide and open complex that features photographs of the mission of Douglas MacArthur when he came to this city.
Veterans Memorial Park is home to all the relics of historical events that happened at the site during World War II. The park’s main attraction is the Lingayen Gulf Landing Shrine, which was constructed in honor of the Filipino fighters who defended our land during the gulf landing in the town.
On the front lawn are two Cessna planes and an air fighter, tanks, and cannons that was used during World War II.
Aside from these, the place also showcases imposing dioramas and works of art that depict the events leading to the gulf landing. One of these is the replica of the oil painting entitled Spirit of ’45 by James Turnbult, which exposes the heroic deed of a Filipino guerilla waving an American flag, indicating that Japanese invaders pulled back and so Americans are safe to land.
